How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a set of custom, 3D-printed, clear aligners that are fabricated based on Dr. Piskai’s digital treatment plan. The aligners fit over the entire arch of teeth, and as you wear them for 22 hours per day, they exert pressure that shifts teeth into place.

Each set of aligners is slightly different and pre-programmed to achieve specific tooth movements. You’ll go through the series of aligners in sequence, typically moving to the next set weekly. The end result will be a beautiful, healthy smile.

Is Invisalign as effective as braces?

Though it depends on your individual case, for most patients, yes, Invisalign is just as effective as braces. Dr. Piskai is a leading Invisalign provider in Haddon Heights, Voorhees, Cherry Hill and the surrounding areas. She has the expertise and training to achieve excellent results with aligners instead of braces for the majority of her patients.

These days, thanks to improvements in digital treatment planning and aligner materials, as well as the creation of SmartForce® attachments, Invisalign is able to fix a wider range of bite problems. Invisalign attachments are tooth-colored buttons that are bonded to certain teeth. They give something for your aligners to push off to achieve complex tooth movements.

Are there food restrictions with Invisalign?

No! There are no Invisalign food restrictions, and you can continue to eat and drink all of your favorites during your treatment. Unlike braces, where food can become stuck and damage a bracket or wire, Invisalign doesn’t use any hardware. As long as you take your aligners out before eating and drinking anything aside from plain water, you’ll be set!

Does Invisalign hurt?

No. You should never feel any serious Invisalign pain during your treatment. That said, when you first start wearing your aligners and sometimes after changing to a new set, your teeth can be a little sore and sensitive to biting pressure.

Discomfort is generally pretty mild and will only last for a few days. Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever like Tylenol can be helpful if you need it. You can also try changing to a new set of aligners before bed, so you sleep through most of the adjustment period.

How long does Invisalign take?

Comprehensive Invisalign treatment takes 18 to 24 months on average, though it could be shorter or longer. Your specific treatment time will depend on your individual case and biology. At your consultation, once Dr. Piskai examines you, she’ll be able to give you an estimate.

How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?

There is an Invisalign cleaning system available for purchase. But, the easiest, most affordable way to clean your Invisalign aligners is to simply brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm (not hot) water whenever you take them out to brush your teeth. You can also use a mild, unscented dish soap to get rid of stubborn saliva and plaque.

Can I chew gum with Invisalign?

Yes, you can chew gum during Invisalign treatment. To avoid having to scrape gum off your aligners, be sure to take them out of your mouth first.

Can I smoke while wearing Invisalign aligners?

No. Smoking while wearing Invisalign aligners will stain them and make them look yellow. Think of it as a great excuse to quit! Your oral and overall health will thank you.

How often do I need to visit Piskai Orthodontics during Invisalign treatment?

It will depend on your treatment plan, but most of our patients visit our office every six to eight weeks for a check-up. During these visits, Dr. Piskai will make sure your treatment is on track and, of course, answer any questions you might have.

How much does Invisalign cost?

We’d love to give you an exact Invisalign cost, but it will depend on any insurance you have. To get an accurate figure, come on in for a complimentary consultation. This will allow us to assess your individual treatment needs and obtain an insurance pre-qualification for your specific situation.

The good news is, our fee is all-inclusive, so there won’t be any surprises. And, whether you have insurance coverage or not, we offer flexible, in-house financing – no dealing with third parties. We also accept cash, all major credit cards, and even bitcoin for deposits and installments.

Do you charge more for Invisalign vs. braces?

No. We believe Invisalign is the best clear aligner system on the market, and while it does cost our practice considerably more than braces due to its premium lab fee, we do not upcharge patients for it. Why? Because we think every patient should have access to the best treatment available without price as a barrier to an optimal result.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Most patients are candidates for Invisalign at Piskai Orthodontics. However, the only way to find out for sure, is to visit our Voorhees orthodontics practice for a free consultation (you can schedule yours here!).

Once Dr. Piskai has the chance to evaluate your diagnostic records and perform an exam, she’ll be able to determine if Invisalign is the best way to get your desired results.
